directors’ note
“The highest possible stage in moral culture is when we recognize that we ought to control our thoughts.”
― Charles Darwin

Inherit the Wind invites us to join in this higher stage of being. It implores us to think, to question, and to constantly re-evaluate what we believe and how we live.

We should not feel smug about the progress that we have made as a society over the years―the issues at the heart of this play continue to brew below the surface, boil over cyclically, and divide us. The core message remains relevant even today: wilful ignorance is not a virtue.

“We can easily forgive a child who is afraid of the dark; the real tragedy of life is when men are afraid of the light.”
