MaryWho was Mary Mauger?

Mary Mauger was the person who triggered the foundation of Kanata Theatre -see How It Began..

It was Mary who called the first meeting of what became the Kanata Theatre Group: she acted as its first secretary, she directed the first play (Rise and Shine) and did the costumes for that play. She was a fine actress and also worked on the production of many plays, producing fine, well-made costumes, helped build scenery and was the continuity person at many, many rehearsals.

In addition, she was an accomplished water-colour artist, capturing the scenery in and around Kanata as well as painting still-life scenes. Some of her paintings appeared as part of stage sets!

The theatre in the Ron Maslin Playhouse has been named the Mary Mauger Auditorium to honour her for her initiative, her artistry and her hard work.

Mary died in 2009.
